United States Department of the Navy at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Naval Station Norfolk is the world’s largest Naval Station and occupies 4,300 acres of Hampton Roads real estate on a peninsula known as Sewell’s Point. Also known as Norfolk Navy Base, it houses the largest concentration of U.S. Navy forces and provides seaport, airport, and squadron facilities, as well as quality of life and personnel management services.

Client Challenge

The United States Navy sought to update and modernize the medical facility at Naval Station Norfolk. The renovations required to improve the building were extensive enough that all operations would be displaced during construction. The Navy needed to acquire space for the dental clinic to continue operations while the construction was taking place.

The Mobilease Solution

The Navy looked to issue the contract for temporary space to a certified 8A contractor in order to fulfill mandated contracting requirements. Mobilease teamed with C&C Contracting, a Virginia based 8A corporation, and worked closely with NAVFAC contracting officers to provide a 7,920 sq. ft. dental facility to meet their needs. The facility provided the Navy with a large reception area, multiple examination and surgery rooms, as well as administrative office space.

“Thank you for supplying the 8,000 sq. ft. modular dental clinic while we renovate the existing dental space at CD-3 Dental Clinic for NAVFAC. Your space is temporary but could be utilized on a permanent basis, if need be. The modular space is practical in maintaining the clinic on site and allowing the construction inside to be done simultaneously; therefore, the clinic is not being interrupted. The modular building is constructed as well or better than conventional construction with a lot less time to build and can be relocated to another site for a dental clinic or other use.”
